Service Description

Modular Acoustic Guitar Making Program Complete the 5-Week Course One Week at a Time Can't commit to five consecutive weeks? The Modular Acoustic Guitar Making Program allows students to complete our flagship 5-Week Acoustic Guitar Making Course over five individual one-week sessions scheduled throughout the year. Students progress through the same curriculum, use the same materials, and ultimately build the same guitar as participants in the full five-week course. The only difference is the pace. Rather than attending five consecutive weeks, students complete the program one module at a time. This option is ideal for those with work, family, or travel commitments that make it difficult to attend the full five-week program in a single block. Students may choose to build a Parlour, OO, OM, OOO, or Dreadnought acoustic guitar under the guidance of luthier Michael Whitney. Program Structure Module 1 – Building the Soundbox Students begin construction of the guitar body by completing and bracing the back plate, installing the rosette, bending the sides, and preparing the neck and tail blocks. Module 2 – Finishing the Soundbox Students assemble the rim, carve and voice the soundboard bracing, install liners, and prepare the body for final assembly. Module 3 – Binding & Body Completion Students install binding and purfling, fit the end graft, cut the neck mortise, complete final body sanding, and begin construction of the neck and fingerboard. Module 4 – Neck Carving & Final Assembly Students carve the neck, complete the fingerboard, install frets, shape the headstock and heel, build and fit the bridge, and prepare the instrument for finishing. Module 5 – Finishing & Setup The final module focuses on finishing and setup. Students will apply a hand-rubbed oil finish before completing the final setup of their instrument. Please Note: Completion of all five modules is required to build and finish the guitar.
